China's Baidu Unveils Ernie 4.0: A New Challenger to GPT-4 in the AI Arena

ChatGPT remains the most popular artificial intelligence system, and its name is widely recognized by most of the population. However, China is keeping a close eye on developments in this field, and the company Baidu has finally unveiled its new version of AI, the Ernie system, which aims to rival GPT-4.

The latest news, reported by Reuters, states that the Chinese giant Baidu revealed its latest generative artificial intelligence model, Ernie 4.0, on Tuesday, the 17th.

According to the company, the capabilities of this new version are on par with those of GPT-4 integrated into OpenAI's ChatGPT.

The introduction of this new version, Ernie 4.0, was presented by Baidu's CEO, Robin Li, at an event in Beijing. Li highlighted the impressive memory capabilities of this new model and demonstrated it by writing a martial arts novel in real-time. Additionally, he showcased Ernie 4.0 creating posters and advertising videos. However, according to the news agency, some analysts were not particularly impressed. Lu Yanxia, an analyst at IDC, mentioned that the Ernie 4.0 launch lacked some highlights compared to the previous version.

The analyst added, "We should see significant improvements when Ernie 4.0 is put into practical use, but the specific updates are not immediately clear."

Baidu's CEO also demonstrated how Baidu Map, for example, now allows users to access features through natural language queries powered by Ernie, whereas previously, they had to search through thousands of options.

Baidu is the most advanced company in China regarding AI models. However, on Tuesday morning, the shares of the tech giant fell by 1.32%.
