Meta Unveils Open Source AI Tools, AudioCraft, For Music And Audio Generation
Meta has unveiled a new set of open source AI tools, AudioCraft, designed for music and audio generation.
Meta's latest reveal, AudioCraft, is a suite of AI tools designed to generate music and audio from text prompts.
MusicGen, one of the tools, can create short pieces of music based on text input or complete a melody it hears, while AudioGen can generate various audio clips from text prompts, including environmental sounds or sound effects.
The suite also includes an improved version of EnCodec, an audio tokeniser, which can generate higher-quality music with fewer artifacts. However, Meta's claim that AudioCraft is open-source has been disputed, as the models are made available for research purposes, not following the specific rules of an open-source license.
Why does this matter?
This development could revolutionise the music and audio industry, providing a new, accessible way for creators to generate unique sounds. However, it also raises concerns around copyright infringement and plagiarism, as AI-generated music could potentially infringe on existing music rights.
